PLA Polylactic Acid Biodegradable Straws Are the General Trend

Polylactic acid PLA is a new type of bioplastic. Because polylactic acid material has both biocompatibility and biodegradability, it occupies a large proportion of the market among all degradable plastics. In addition to the biodegradable properties, the main advantages of polylactic acid include good mechanical properties and its material source. The main sources of polylactic acid are corn and other plant starches. Compared with the physical properties of other conventional plastics, the mechanical properties of polylactic acid are basically similar.

Under the premise of ensuring the product characteristics remain unchanged, the biodegradable straws manufacturer has developed different types of biodegradable straws of various colors and varieties. The various physical properties of straw products have been gradually improved, and the appearance and function of the straws are very close to those produced by traditional polypropylene materials. Good gloss and transparency, and has the advantages of safety, hygiene, antibacterial and so on. In view of the fact that the material source of polylactic acid straws is starch of various plants, and the source of matrix materials is very wide, in the environment of rising crude oil prices and gradual depletion of oil storage, biodegradable straws have very significant environmental protection advantages, and at the same time have very obvious advantages. It is expected to gradually replace traditional polypropylene drinking straws in the near future.

Since biodegradable materials are mainly based on natural polymers or polyester species, a polymer made from renewable natural resources, such as microorganisms, plants, and animals, the biodegradable biological straw products produced from its materials are generally The atmospheric environment and storage warehouse will not decompose, only with sufficient humidity, temperature and appropriate microbial conditions, it can be decomposed into water and carbon dioxide by microorganisms after about 45 days in a natural burial or composting environment.

1. The biodegradable straw is decomposed by hydrolysis reaction and then decomposed by microorganisms

Biodegradable plastic straws first undergo hydrolysis in the natural environment, and then microorganisms enter the tissue and decompose it into carbon dioxide and water. Under composting conditions (high temperature and high humidity), the hydrolysis reaction can be completed easily and the decomposition rate is faster. In the environment where hydrolysis reaction is not easy to occur, the decomposition process is gradual, and the decomposition period will be extended accordingly.

2. The advantages of biodegradable straws

(1) The material is natural, non-toxic, and has high air permeability. Some PLA products are approved by the US FDA and can be directly contacted with food. Even if it contains acidic and alcoholic ingredients, it will not release any substances that are dangerous to the human body.

(2) The use of any waste treatment methods (such as landfill, recycling, composting) will not cause any impact on the environment. After discarding, it can be completely decomposed by microorganisms through composting environment and landfill treatment.

(3) Biodegradable straws can replace traditional plastic straws with petroleum as raw material matrix, and have the same physical properties as traditional plastic straws, and use the same method.
